Screen protectors all look interchangeable until you've bought the wrong one. Here's how to pick the right glass without overthinking it.
For most phones, tempered glass made from a quality material like AGC Dragontrail gives you the best balance of clarity, scratch resistance and impact protection. After that it mostly comes down to the finish: clear for the brightest screen, matte to kill glare and fingerprints, or a specialty version for blue-light filtering or privacy.
Glass or plastic film?
Plastic (PET or TPU) film is thin and cheap, but it scratches easily and never really feels like glass under your finger. Tempered glass is thicker, far tougher, and feels like the original screen. On a normal flat phone, glass wins. Film still earns its place on curved edges or rugged phones where it needs to flex.
What's AGC Dragontrail, and does the brand matter?
It does. Dragontrail is a chemically strengthened glass from AGC, one of Japan's major glassmakers, and it's known for being both clear and tough. Our ULTRA HARD GLASS protectors use Dragontrail Pro; SUPER TOUGH GLASS uses triple-strengthened tempered glass; and NANOCERAM Premium Glass uses a nano-ceramic build for the highest impact resistance. Cheap unbranded glass is where you get cloudy edges and chips that travel.
What “9H” actually means
9H is the top of the pencil-hardness scale used to rate scratch resistance — it means keys, coins and the usual pocket hazards won't mark the surface. One thing people miss: 9H measures scratches, not shatter resistance. How well glass survives a real drop depends on its chemistry and thickness, not the hardness number.
Clear, matte, or something in between
Clear keeps colors brightest, so it's the pick if you shoot a lot of photos or watch video. Matte — we call ours nano-matte — scatters glare and hides fingerprints with a smooth, paper-like feel that gamers and outdoor users tend to love. There are also anti-blue-light versions for long sessions, and privacy glass that darkens the screen at an angle so the person beside you on the train can't read your messages.
Don't forget the fingerprint sensor
If your phone reads your fingerprint through the screen, only use a protector built for it. Ours for Samsung Galaxy, Pixel and similar phones are tuned to keep that sensor working through the glass — but always check the listing says so for your exact model.
The short version
Match the finish to how you actually use your phone — clear for media, matte for glare and gaming, blue-light for tired eyes, privacy for nosy commutes — then buy a known glass instead of the cheapest sheet on the shelf. We make ULTRA HARD GLASS (AGC Dragontrail Pro), SUPER TOUGH GLASS (tempered) and NANOCERAM (nano-ceramic) for iPhone, Galaxy, Xperia, Pixel and the Nintendo Switch 2.
