SNAPCOVER 1 vs SNAPCOVER 2: What's New in DEFF's Magnetic Folio Case?

Since SNAPCOVER 2 came out, a lot of you have asked how it compares to the original SNAPCOVER 1. Fair question. At a glance they look pretty similar, and they cost the same. So here's a plain rundown of both, what the new one adds, and which one we'd pick depending on how you use your phone.

SNAPCOVER 1: A Folio You Can Actually Take Off

The whole point of SNAPCOVER 1 was to fix the thing people don't like about folio cases: once it's on, it's on. This one attaches with MagSafe, so it takes about a second to put on or pull off. Keep it on for the commute or a trip, take it off at your desk when you just want the phone.

• Snaps on and off with MagSafe. No adhesive, no frame, nothing to install.
• Light. Around 87 g for the M size and 100 g for the L, and noticeably slimmer than a typical leather folio.
• Two card slots plus an L-shaped inner pocket for two cards, a couple of receipts, a ticket, some cash.
• Non-slip lining and a layered build, so it holds onto cases of different thicknesses.
• Magnetic strap that folds back and holds itself out of the way while the cover is open.

It fits MagSafe iPhones from 2020 onward, minus the mini models. M covers 6.1 to 6.3 inch phones, L covers 6.7 to 6.9 inch phones. Six colours: Pink, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Grey and Black.

SNAPCOVER 2: Same Idea, More of Everything

SNAPCOVER 2 keeps what worked: the half-second snap, the slim profile, the freedom to take it off whenever. Then it adds the things people kept asking for.

• Works with Pixel now. It supports both MagSafe and Pixelsnap, so it fits the Google Pixel 10 series as well as iPhone.
• Two card slots and a bigger inner pocket. Enough for a transit card, a credit card and the receipts you keep meaning to throw away.
• A kickstand, two ways. Fold the cover and it props the phone up in landscape or portrait, with a built-in magnet holding it in place.
• Cut-back edge around the camera. Phone cameras keep getting bigger, so the edge is shaped to clear them. The cover sits flat and stays out of your photos.
• Neodymium magnets, properly aligned. It lands in the right spot every time and stays shut in a bag or pocket.
• Materials: PU leather outside, polycarbonate frame, microfibre lining inside.

Five colours this time: Matte Black, Carbon Black, Navy Blue, Ivory White and Saddle Brown. Size M fits iPhone 12 through 17 and the Pro models, plus Pixel 10 and 10 Pro. Size L fits the Plus and Pro Max models from iPhone 12 through 17, iPhone Air, and Pixel 10 Pro XL and Fold.

So, Which One?

Go with SNAPCOVER 1 if you're on iPhone, want the lightest option, and like a bit of colour. Pink, Orange and Yellow aren't available on the new one.

Go with SNAPCOVER 2 if you have an iPhone or a Pixel 10, carry more than one card, or watch a lot of video on your phone. The kickstand alone is worth it if you eat lunch at your desk. Same price either way, so unless you're set on one of the brighter colours, this is the one we'd pick.

One more thing: both covers go over your existing MagSafe-compatible case. You don't have to swap out the case you already have.
