Sony has just officially launched its annual flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VIII, built around an "ore" design concept that showcases a fresh aesthetic, perfectly blending advanced technology with a crafted, tactile feel. It debuts an AI Photography Assistant powered by Xperia Intelligence, which instantly recognizes scenes and subjects and offers optimized suggestions for tone, focal length, and bokeh effects, letting users effortlessly capture everyday moments with more style.
At the same time, Japanese brand Deff has also launched accessories designed specifically for Xperia smartphones, earning the "Made for Xperia" certification mark. This mark is licensed only to accessories approved by Sony Mobile Communications and purpose-built for Xperia smartphones, reflecting a high standard of quality and dedicated compatibility.

Before diving into the phone accessories, let's first uncover why the Xperia 1 VIII adopts a different camera-module layout than before. The main reason actually comes down to the newly upgraded telephoto lens, which now uses a 1/1.56-inch image sensor — four times larger than the previous generation. Because the sensor is physically larger, internal space became more constrained, which is why the camera-module layout was adjusted this time around.
The telephoto lens is the key upgrade highlight of the Xperia 1 VIII.
The Xperia 1 VII and Xperia 1 VIII place their camera modules differently, redesigned to accommodate the upgraded sensor and the resulting internal structural changes.
This design also addresses the previous issue where the wide-angle lens would sometimes capture a stray finger during landscape shots, further improving the user experience.
To make these changes without compromising the original device's design, the Deff DURO Kevlar Fiber Slim Case received detailed adjustments. The camera area on the back uses a recessed design that matches the camera module, so even when the phone is placed face-down on a table, the lenses never touch the surface directly — effectively preventing scratches while leaving the camera function completely unaffected.
In addition, in response to market and consumer demand for magnetic accessories, the Xperia 1 VIII DURO Kevlar Fiber Slim Case now includes a built-in MagSafe metal ring, seamlessly integrated into the case without compromising its design appeal.
To match the four official color options — Graphite Black, Dusk Ore Red, Raw Ore Gold, and Cold Ore Silver — in addition to the classic Carbon Fiber Black, a special new "Fiber Red" version has been added, pairing perfectly with all four Xperia 1 VIII color options.
This case is made from 100% DuPont® Kevlar®, currently one of the toughest fibers in the world, with strength roughly 5 times that of steel of the same weight. It offers outstanding scratch and impact resistance and excellent durability. At a thickness of only about 1.2mm, it delivers an almost bare-phone slim feel while still providing extremely tough protection.
To keep the overall design looking even more minimalist, the designers specifically placed the brand logo
Officially, the phone's design this time draws inspiration from the ORE concept, combining the beauty of natural texture — from the camera module to the rear glass to the aluminum alloy frame, everything conveys the overall feel of raw stone. Held in the hand, it has a slightly rough texture, as if taken straight from nature's rugged charm, captivating both visually and to the touch. This design lets users' personal style and everyday experience continue to be refined over time, gradually revealing a shine that's uniquely their own.
Four color options are available: Raw Ore Gold, Dusk Ore Red, Cold Ore Silver, and Graphite Black.
Fiber Red is a special limited colorway for this release, paired with a special matte coating for an understated feel that combines comfort with practicality. Leveraging the strengths of aramid fiber, the case stays light yet tough; the fine woven texture paired with the coating treatment delivers a smooth touch that sits comfortably in the palm. The minimalist design traces the sleek lines and distinctive silhouette unique to the Xperia 1 VIII. Most importantly, this case doesn't interfere with calls, 5G connectivity, NFC, Qi wireless charging, or mobile payments (such as Mobile Suica), balancing protection with convenience.
Unlike before, the side button cutouts now use a fully open design, letting ruggedness and refinement coexist. While maintaining protection, it also reveals a bit of the raw-stone texture's roughness alongside the fiber weave's linear detailing, further enhancing depth and sophistication.
Pairing the Carbon Fiber Black case with the Dusk Ore Red body creates a particularly distinctive overall look, where the black's calm restraint plays off the red's vivid passion, striking a visual balance of strength and softness.
The body's texture blends the natural feel of raw stone with the refined craftsmanship of woven fiber, showcasing the precise fusion of nature's raw power and engineered materials.
Made with high-precision molding technology, the case fully wraps around the device for broader protection coverage. While ensuring thorough protection, it still maintains a comfortable grip. On top of that, the case is also compatible with most screen glass protectors on the market, offering more flexibility in use.
The headphone-jack cutout at the top has smooth, rounded edges and an enlarged opening, helping improve compatibility with wired headphones.
The USB-C port and microphone opening at the bottom are both precision-cut, balancing protection with ease of use.

Deff's standard foldable stand, "MagSnap," supports MagSafe and uses a magnetic design that's easy to attach and remove, causing no interference even when left on the phone for extended periods. At just about 3.3mm thick, it stays slim and unobtrusive.
