iPhone 15 Pro Launch Accessory! Japan's DeFF DURO Kevlar Fiber Ultra-Slim & Light Case Standard Edition and MagSafe Special Edition First Look Unboxing / Review / Introduction by Marco 20231001

DeFF, a Japanese phone accessory manufacturer actively expanding into the Taiwan market, recently announced the launch of accessories for the Apple iPhone 15 series. In addition to offering an 8x-hardness tempered glass protector and an all-in-one lens protector, the highly anticipated DURO Ultra Slim & Light Case series is launching in two versions: a Standard Edition and a MagSafe Special Edition Kevlar fiber ultra-slim & light case. This is a great option for Apple fans who love the feel of a bare phone and lightweight design.

The DeFF DURO series is made from 100% DuPont Kevlar material from the USA. Its thickness and weight are approximately 0.65mm/12g (Standard Edition) and 1.18mm/20g (MagSafe Special Edition). Its strength is five times that of steel of the same weight, while its weight is only half that of fiberglass, and it also offers heat resistance, anti-magnetic properties, impact resistance, and vibration damping. Because the manufacturing and processing of DuPont Kevlar fiber is complex and intricate, the case, thanks to a precise 3D design, is able to cover the entire phone, effectively reducing the risk of cracking from drops. With its excellent protective capability and lightweight build, it can be called the case that comes closest to the bare-phone feel. Unlike common carbon fiber material (made of carbon atoms), DuPont Kevlar uses an aromatic polyamide fiber material that does not interfere with 4G and 5G data communication, wireless charging, NFC communication, and other functions. This material is also widely used in high-strength, reliable, military-grade applications.

The MagSafe Special Edition is designed for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The Standard Edition is available for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I'm honored to have gotten an early unboxing of Japan's DeFF DURO iPhone 15 series Standard Edition and MagSafe Special Edition Kevlar fiber ultra-slim & light cases ahead of the official launch date. Actually, I fell in love with this case's exceptional feel back when Sony Xperia first launched the DURO series. Because of the precise 3D design, the case fits the phone extremely closely, almost preserving the bare-phone feel while still offering protection — the exact opposite approach from cases on the market that emphasize thick, heavy-duty protection. This also proves the Japanese designers' demanding standards for product quality — after all, it's no easy task to develop a case that's both good-looking and practical without compromising the phone's original appearance.

#ProTip: What's the difference between the DeFF DURO iPhone 15 series Standard Edition and MagSafe Special Edition?
The difference lies in the camera module cutout. The Standard Edition uses an open design, compatible with lens protectors sold on the market, while the MagSafe Special Edition, in addition to using fiber to wrap the lens cutout area, also has an aluminum alloy frame embedded internally for double-layer protection, giving it a sleek appearance and exceptionally strong lens protection. The MagSafe Special Edition also incorporates a magnetic ring for enhanced attachment strength, making it well suited for use with in-car wireless charging mounts.

Let's take a closer look at the MagSafe Special Edition, which I find particularly interesting this time. Its appearance retains a calm, understated feel, with a lightweight yet sturdy shell, a fibrous texture, and a special anti-slip matte coating.

The brand logo is discreetly hidden on the inner layer of the case. According to the Japanese designers, this is meant to preserve the most original, minimalist design so users can focus more on the feel of the phone in their hand and the special woven texture on the surface.

With the case on, only the camera lenses remain visible

The lens cutout is wrapped with fiber, and an aluminum alloy frame is embedded around the outer edge for double-layer protection, giving it a sleek appearance and exceptionally strong lens protection.

Since the cutout sits higher than the camera module, you don't need to worry about scratching the lens surface when laying the phone flat on a table.

The side buttons use an open design, revealing a hint of the Titanium Blue color, which looks quite nice paired together.

The left side also uses an open design, and you can see the Action Button unique to the current iPhone 15 Pro series.

To accommodate the various types of USB connectors on the market, the USB port opening at the bottom has been enlarged for maximum compatibility with original and third-party charging cables.

Thanks to the precise 3D design, the case fits the phone extremely closely, and from the front it has no impact whatsoever on screen protectors, remaining compatible with any screen protector sold on the market.

The DuPont Kevlar fiber weave gives the surface a special cross-like texture.

The left side uses cutouts for the function buttons, preserving the original button feel.

In addition, DeFF has developed different functional screen protectors tailored to user needs, using Dragontrail X flagship glass from Japan's AGC Corporation, one of the hardest chemically strengthened glasses in the world. Its hardness exceeds 9H on the pencil hardness scale, reaching over 7 on the Mohs hardness scale (a mineral hardness standard). The glass surface is treated with a multi-layer coating, offering smooth, effortless finger swiping while providing strong resistance to dirt — even oil and cosmetic residue can be wiped away with ease.

DeFF SUPER TOUGH GLASS 8x-Hardness Tempered Glass Protector
The glass used in the "SUPER TOUGH GLASS" undergoes a special chemical strengthening process after conventional heat strengthening. Through this dual strengthening process, hardening is achieved across the entire surface, including the sides and edges. Offers 8 times the hardness of soda-lime glass protectors, at a thickness of approximately 0.4mm, delivering exceptional screen protection.

#ProTip
What does "dual hardening for increased strength" mean? Ordinary glass protectors only undergo heat strengthening — the glass is heated and then rapidly cooled, using the temperature differential between hot and cold to create a state where the outer and inner layers each bear compressive stress, thereby improving resistance to impact and twisting. DeFF's "TOUGH GLASS" series, on the other hand, undergoes a secondary strengthening process — after heat strengthening, a special chemical ion-exchange process is applied for a second round of hardening. Because tiny scratches can form on glass during the heat-strengthening process, the subsequent chemical ion-exchange treatment strengthens the bonding at the molecular level, comprehensively improving hardness across the glass, including the edges, and further increasing its durability.

The edges are finely rounded to eliminate any uncomfortable feel when handling the phone. The smooth texture resembles the glass surface of a watch, elevating the overall feel of the iPhone. The glass dimensions are carefully calibrated so that the protector blends seamlessly with the edge of the display, both in appearance and in use.

Included in the box is a handy DIY application tool — simply secure the black plastic frame onto the phone and you can easily apply the glass screen protector. (Though experienced users won't need this tool.)

Finally, for the iPhone 15 series, DeFF has also launched the "PREMIUM HYBRID CAMERA LENS COVER," an all-in-one lens protector available with a choice of aluminum alloy or clear acrylic base, with a sleek design that blends seamlessly and attractively with the iPhone. The glass component undergoes special secondary hardening and features a ceramic coating and an AR coating, reducing ghosting caused by external light. At approximately 0.3mm thick, it provides all-around protection for the protruding lens area, boosting impact resistance by five times.

What is top-spec dual hardening with ceramic + AR dual coating?
Ceramic and AR dual coating offer a stronger advantage over similar products, enhancing the shooting experience and ensuring photo and video quality. Ceramic coating: the secondary hardening combined with the ceramic coating is extremely hard and durable, keeping the iPhone's camera lens in great condition over the long term. AR coating: the AR (anti-reflective) coating helps reduce reflections from external light. This reduces optical issues such as ghosting or flare, resulting in clearer, sharper photos and videos. With less interference from external light, shooting quality is improved.

Uses precision CNC engraving and is installed with re-peelable 3M double-sided tape, allowing it to stay firmly attached to the iPhone without easily coming loose, ensuring reliable protection. Adheres securely to the iPhone without easily detaching.

Regarding the flash and LiDAR sensor (Pro series only): if a lens protector uses a glass covering or the product itself has an overly deep recess, it may cause malfunction and affect photo quality. For this reason, the "PREMIUM HYBRID CAMERA LENS COVER" uses an open, uncovered design around the iPhone's sensor area, with the opening shaped in a tapered form. This prevents light reduction due to the cutout position when using the flash, ensuring that the sensor's operation is not affected and preventing malfunctions with the camera lens and autofocus.

The Ultra Slim & Light Case DURO series can be used together with the PREMIUM tempered glass lens protector.

DeFF's brand philosophy, "Design Evolution For the Future," is guided by the principles of "highly original ideas" and "continuously evolving design," proposing a lifestyle that keeps pace with the times to create the future.
